What is HTML Rename?
HTML Rename is freeware utility for batch renaming HTML format files (by "HTML format" here I mean all files with extensions *.htm, *.html, *.shtm, *.shtml and that contain HTML <TITLE> (and closing part - </TITLE>) tag). The new filename is based on HTML head section's <TITLE> tag information i.e. what's between <TITLE> and </TITLE>. For those who are not familiar with HTML - the new filename is based on text what you see on browser's title bar while you are viewing HTML file in browser (of course, except browser added info such as browser name etc.).
Why you should use HTML Rename? Maybe you don't, if you are asking... But I can tell why I wrote HTML Rename. After few months of heavily using Internet and saving files on disk I had directory full of files with names like "index.htm", "default.htm", "article1.htm", "article2.htm" etc. because when I save files I don't want to waste my time and manually type new filename for every file. It's not a problem if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer - it derives new filename from title text, but I use Opera 7 (and suggest you to do the same) that derives filename from actual filename (as they were named by webmaster). As you, see, the result is that stored files are not very useable because filenames are not descriptive. To know title of such file you have to open it in browser and look for it. Then if you want you can rename it. Such procedure is admissible if you have few files. But I had hundreds. To automate the process I wrote HTML Rename.
